Silicone seals around sinks, tubs and showers are the thin, flexible lines that keep water from slipping into gaps and soaking into cabinets or walls. At first, they’re neat and watertight. Over time, they can crack, peel, grow mould or lift slightly from the surface.
If you never look closely, small breaches can let water creep into the wood or plaster underneath. That’s when you start to see swollen cabinets, stained walls, or soft patches that signal deeper damage.
A quick visual check every few months lets you spot trouble early. If you see mould that doesn’t clean off, gaps, or obvious lifting, it might be time to remove and re-seal that area. Fresh silicone is cheap compared to replacing a rotten vanity or repairing hidden water damage.
That thin bead may not look like much, but it’s quietly protecting everything beneath the surface.
