A dull hallway often doesn’t need a major renovation; it needs a few smart tweaks. First, look at what’s blocking light. Heavy, dark doors or solid panels can sometimes be replaced (or upgraded later) with versions that have frosted or clear glass inserts, so light from bright rooms spills into the hall.
On the walls, lighter paint colours make a big difference. Even just shifting from a creamy beige to a softer, more reflective off-white can bounce whatever light there is further down the corridor. Shiny surfaces help too: a mirror placed opposite a source of light, or even one at the end of the hallway, pulls brightness in and stops the space feeling like a tunnel.
You can also declutter. Hallways with tall, bulky furniture feel darker because they block sightlines and shadows collect around them. Swapping a deep console for a slim one, or using wall-mounted shelves instead of floor units, opens things up.
None of this is dramatic building work, but together, these small changes can turn a gloomy passage into a space you don’t rush through, but actually enjoy passing by.
