How can teaching family members a simple “lock-up routine” before bed increase security?

Security isn’t just about gadgets; it’s about habits. A simple nightly “lock-up routine” – the same short checklist followed every evening – helps close easy gaps.

For example: check main door is locked with deadbolt, balcony doors and windows are closed or set to a safe position, gas knobs are off, lights needed outside are on, any cars are locked, and valuables aren’t left visibly near windows. If everyone knows the routine, one person can do it or it can be shared.

Over time, it becomes automatic, like brushing your teeth. You don’t spend long on it, but you go to sleep knowing you haven’t accidentally left the back door half open or a ground-floor window wide open.

Clear, small, repeated actions often protect a home better than one expensive device that no one uses properly.
