Why is it important to check that satellite dishes or antennas are firmly fixed to the roof?

Satellite dishes, antennas and even some solar fittings are often bolted to roofs, parapets or walls. If they’re not fixed properly, a few things can go wrong. In strong winds, a loose bracket can cause the unit to wobble, damaging both itself and the surface it’s attached to. In extreme weather, it might even break free, which is dangerous.

Movement around fixing points can also open small gaps in waterproofing. Over time, water can seep through those points into the roof structure or interior walls, causing leaks and stains.

A quick visual check – are the brackets straight, are bolts tight, is there any cracking or rust around the fixings? – helps you spot trouble early. If you see obvious movement in a breeze, that’s a red flag.

You rely on these devices for TV or internet, but they should never be installed at the expense of the building’s health.
